In my opinion I believe that Tj did a good job in his work on the
section of his book. The space for improvement that I can see is that Tj needs
to get more in depth in detail with his work

What do the characters in The Hunchback of
Notre Dame symbolize?
I think the characters in the Hunchback of
Notre dame symbolize people in our everyday society. I see this because many of
the related themes and issues that occurred in the time period of the hunhback
of notre dame still occur now such as acts of obsession where some people get
so obsessed over others they may even lose control and kill someone just to
prove their point and I also believe that the characters symbolize an
individual perspective on life according to each person because it seems to
show that each character has a specific role to either help or step on someone
else just to achieve their goals.
What is the theme of The Hunchback of Notre Dame?
The main theme portrayed in the Hunchback of Notre dame is
obsession because of the proofs shown of how obsession can drive someone into
killing another person and maybe go even as far as to kill multiple people. Obsession
brought Frollo to kill the Captain in which Esmeralda was in love with.
Comments on Frank's Work
I think that Frank did a good job in his part of the book with the
in depth questions and the information given in his individual blog topics. The
only thing I have to say about Frank’s work is that the work was not detailed enough.

5. Throughout the
novel how is the theme of obsession portrayed.
Throughout the
novel the theme of obsession is portrayed strongly because of the fact of the
strong obsession between Frollo and Esmeralda. In which Frollo is madly
obsessed with Esmeralda to a point in which Frollo ends up murdering the
captain just so that Esmeralda’s lover will not be in the way between Frollo
and Esmeralda.
4. What is the
main literary device in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
I think the main
literary device in the Hunchback of Notre dame is imagery because I feel that
throughout the book the author of this story has been teaching and telling us
about the city of Paris

Comments toward's Daniel's Blog
Comments about Daniel’s Blog
Daniels section was very interesting in the fact that the story
starts to richen and get very interesting with the introduction of characters
and the new sight that we get towards Quasimodo in how his feelings are now
shown. Overall I think Daniel did a great job especially going into detail with
his work. The only thing I would have to say about Daniels blog is that he
could have tried to go a little further indepth with his analysis of setting in
which he could have tried to speak about the three main divisions of Paris in a
more detailed manner.

What kind of relationship does Quasimodo have with the bells?
The relationship that Quasimodo has with the bells are like his
way to relax. Quasimodo finds that ringing the bells has become a responsibility
of his and he also uses the bells to get away from reality so that he can
extract the painful thoughts and accusations that other citizens have towards
him.

3. What reaction did Gringoire have when Esmeralda saved his life from being hung? Would you have the same reaction?
Gringoire was surprised when Esmeralda saved his life being hung. Esmeralda said that she will comes forward and offers to save his life by "marrying" him for four years only.
I was also surprised to because Esmeralda had to get marry to Gringoire to save his life for 4 years. They have to be marry for 4 years because Clopin throws down a pot and it breaks into four pieces so they have to be marry for 4 years.
4.Describe Gringoire’s financial situation and his plan to make money
Frollo reminds Gringoire that La Esmerelda saved his life and that they were technically married before she was arrested. Gringoire is still reluctant to risk his life to save her and declares that the last thing he wants is to be hanged. He then asks Claude for money and, when Claude refuses, Jehan runs off, declaring that he has decided to join the vagabonds.

The problems of Segregation
Through these past several months there have been
countless cases of segregation through all the citizens that the problem has
fallen upon. One of the most recent times that segregation has been shown by
all is when, these citizens segregate Mr. Quasimodo because of his visual
appearance to the world and how such a man considered to have a “deformed”
figure of his body just because of his hunched over back, his eye problems,
being def, and his so called “deformed face.” All of this has led to the
segregation of these people and even others “using” these people that have
“deformed figures” to be used as entertainment such as the Fool’s Pope that was
won by Quasimodo only because of his “disfigured face.” We can all make a
difference if we just decided to break down the walls of segregation and accept
these people into our society and maybe even into our lives. I guess what I am
trying to say is just making a new friend couldn’t possibly hurt.

Theme
The overall theme of this book is really
represented by the segregation of the citizens or anyone who happens to look at
others just based on appearance. Many of the citizens throughout the book look
at the hunchback differently because of the fact that the hunchback has
“deformities” such as being deaf, or only having one working eye, and the
deformation of his face. (Deformities is in quotations because I find that the
word deformities can only be used through the eyes of the beholder I do not see
how the word deformities can generalize everyone that has problems) Some people even use the hunchback as humor
to entertain others.

Devices
One of the literary devices used in this
book is imagery. I found that imagery was used throughout the book several
times such as when the author describes how the Main hall appeared to be in
that time era. Another time where I found imagery was strongly used was when
the author described the hunchback, such as he a big man who had a hunchback
with a “deformed face,” only one eye and was deaf. The other literary device I
found that the author used was foreshadowing because in my section I found that
Gringoire was starting to build a relationship with Esmeralda even though it
was Esmeralda who saved Gringoire’s life from being killed by king.

of Setting
During the beginning of the book “The
Hunchback of Notre Dame” the setting takes place in Paris January 6 1482 ) This book starts with the double holiday
of the feast of fools and the epiphany. The current economic setting for the
book so far does not seem to be very wealthy because there are citizens that
are stealing belongings from others when they are paying attention to the
festivities that are going on in the feast of fools and the epiphany. Many of
the citizens seem not to mind in taking part in some of the foolish activities
such as joining along in the Fool’s Pope where one citizen achieves the title
of Fool’s Pope for a day, to receive this title the citizen must make the most
outrageous face in a competition between other citizens to win and the crowd
members are the ones who vote on who wins the competition.

Most Memorable Moment Journal
Throughout my first part of the book the most
memorable moment for me was in the beginning when Peirre Gringoire was trying to get the audiences
attention so that he could start the play but was unable to due to the various
amounts of interuptions that went on that distracted all the citizens from
paying attention to Gringoire’s play. This was the most memorable moment during
my part because I found it partly amusing that only one of the audience members
stayed and payed some attention to how the prologue of the play went, and
because it helped introduce the financial situation that gringoire is in and it
helped introduce the city and the festivities that were occuring that took the
audiences attention off the play. Another reason was that this part of the book
introduced us to one of the main characters known as the hunchback who is
Quasimodo. Quasimodo was introduced when the crowd’s attention was attracted by
the fool’s Pope (very popular for a single day) who was one person that was
chosen by the crowd who was the “ugliest” out of the group that competed and
who ever one would become the fool’s Pope for the day. The idea of the fool’s
Pope was given by a man by the name of Coppenole who found the play held by
Gringoire to be boring.

Throughout
my first section we find out that Gringoire was not very well educated and
learned that he was illiterate too till he was taught how to read and write.
After taking in those skills Gringoire became a poet which he decided to make
it into a play for the audience/ citizens at the Feast of fools and the
epiphany. We discover also that Gringoire is also in a financial problem where
he fails to pay his land lord.

Many things have taken its toll on
me these past 2 days. I realize that I did not make any entries yesterday this
was because of the fact of my failure to present my play to make money all
thanks to that Coppenole who turned all the citizens’ attention to his idea of
amusing… that feeble minded fool thinks that the Fool’s Pope is more
entertaining than my play in which I worked so hard on… Near night rise I
decided to go to the lake and contemplate suicide. Luckily I did not continue
on with my actions instead I went to a bon fire to warm up. Surprising for me
there was a dancer by the name of Esmeralda which so happens that the others
around the bon fire knew about. Later on there was a mysterious figure that was
wandering in the back alleys who ended up kidnapping Esmeralda.
1. “What are they about to say?” – this
shows that Gringoire is quite impatient and does not like to be interrupted
while he is doing his work
2. “A plague on both the stupid and
dull witted girl” – that showed that Gringoire finds some people ignorant and
incompetent when they do not understand his work of poetry
Esmeralda
In
the first 2 chapters the character of Esmeralda was mainly left as a mystery
for the reader and to Gringoire. Through near the end of chapter two we learn
that Esmeralda is a dancer on the streets who so happens to end up saving
Gringoire’s life by marrying him. We are not really introduced to an in-depth
analysis on the characteristics of Esmeralda we only currently know that she is
a young dancer and seems to be caring for others because she chose to save
Gringoire’s life from being killed by the king in which she now has to be
married to Gringoire for 4 years.
Today for some
reason I felt like there were much more people watching me dancing even though
there are hundreds a day. I felt like someone was following to me today while I
was heading home but I think it was just my imagination. I do not know why but
for some reason I decided to save someone by marrying them this man looks very
familiar I think he may have watched me dance before maybe…?
I could not find any quotes because the
book is mostly in Third person context
Quasimodo
This character in the first section
still remains a mystery. We are only mainly introduced to the physical
appearance of Quasimodo; we know that he has a hunchback, only one working eye,
he is deaf, and that he has a “deformed” face. This first section does not
introduce the personality that Quasimodo has but we find out that he somewhat
likes attention because he participated in the Fool’s Pope competition against
other citizens and he even ended up winning in the competition.
Today one of the higher in command personnel
announced that there would be a competition of the Fool’s Pope I decided to
join in and it so happened that I won and was the Fool’s Pope for today. I felt
very happy because I got the attention of so many people and I ended up winning
competition against all the others.

First impression Journal
The beginning of this novel starts
on January 6th, 1482
where we are placed in the city of Paris
which so happened to be in its yearly celebration of the festival of fools and
the Epiphany. In the celebration there are three main things that are focused on.
The first thing is fireworks in the Place De Greve. The next event is the
painting of the May tree at the Chapel Of Braque. The last event is a mystery
play preformed at the Palace of Justice
Throughout
this first chapter every street that has an event going in is filled with
people waiting for the Ambassadors. The sounds of each citizen making fun of
each other, travels throughout the Palace. When the clock reaches twelve, the
crowd starts to get impatient. (as if they weren’t already) Soon after the
crowd starts to shout Michel Gibourne, an actor, appears and tells the restless
crowd that the play will begin soon.
In
this first chapter we are introduced to Hugo who tells others about the laws
and customs of 15th century Paris .
The Parisian citizens enjoy participating in the festivals and bring their
hyped up spirits with them. Hugo speaks of the fact that Paris
has a good system of low and order.
