Character Analysis


Character Analysis
Quasimodo:
He is the protagonist of the novel. He is the hunchback of Notre dame. He was abandoned at the Notre dame however he was adopted by a priest at Notre dame named Claude Frollo. He has a hunchback, something coming out of his chest, a wart that covers an eye and is also deaf. Despite all of this he has a pure heart. This purity is directly directed to the cathedral. One of the few things that will calm him down is the sound of the bells of the cathedral.

Claude Frollo:
He is the antagonist of the novel. He is also a priest at Notre dame. He isn’t depicted as the usual evil character most people would imagine of. But he is depicted as very bright and compassionate. He has a brother Jehan who he spoiled as he had to take care of him himself because his parents had passed away. He is compassionate to Quasimodo. But he becomes mad and does black magic because of his failure to Quasimodo and Jehan. His obsession to La Esmeralda causes her to die by hanging and torture toward Quasimodo.

La Esmeralda:
She is the lost daughter of Gudule. She is a gypsy dancer. She has a goat named Djali. She gets everyone’s attention by her looks. Although sadly she was executed because she chose death over a life she has to love someone even though she doesn’t love him.
