The characters in The Hunchback of Notre Dame Symbolize the people in our modern day society. This is because they relate to our modern day problems. Like for example the way in the novel most of the people have been treating Quasimodo. Relates to the way we in our modern day society treat those who we see as deformed and and with a disablility.

The main theme of The Hunchback of Notre Dame is Obsession because of how a person can be pused to the point where he will be start by killing one by one to killing multiple people. This shown by Claude Frollo and La Esmeralda to the point Frollo killed the Captain who was in love with La Esmeralda.
