Analysis of style and structure

The cathedral itself is very symbolic, it is used throughout the story , it characterizes the theocratic powers that be by showing the buildings that theocracies build as powerful edifices that live on forever while the people who built them pass away ,these old structures show meaning and knowledge of a given reign of power. A much simpler example of symbolism is Esmeralda’s baby shoes , after she is kidnapped her mum keeps them as treasure , something she even wears as a necklace to keep the idea alive that she will be reunited with Esmeralda. The shoes symbolise the innocence of children as well as the connection of mother to child.
